It's officially Hispanic Heritage Month, where we celebrate the many contributions made by Hispanic Americans throughout our nation's timeline! Each year, we spend September 15th-October 15th honoring the expansive culture, achievements, and positive influences that have impacted the United States. Honoring the Hispanic and Latinx American culture can include trips to museums, reading books written by Hispanic authors/poets, watching documentaries, and donating to Hispanic nonprofit organizations. Below are some of our favorite pieces with designs and prints that help bring this all to life!
Embroidery Texture Print
Hispanic culture is both expressive and colorful, just like these bright embroidery prints. Its history reminds us of unwavering strength and perseverance and that every flower has a purpose, no matter where it has been set to bloom. Flowers play a significant role in Hispanic culture, often representing beauty, creation, and the circle of life. So why not wear them all month long?
Frida's Blooming Flowers
Many of us are familiar with the artist Frida Kahlo because of her famous self-portrait, but did you know that she also loved to paint nature? She lived in Mexico and was so inspired by its beauty and artifacts that she often used them as inspiration to portray how gender, race, and class were being expressed at the time. We have a feeling she would absolutely love these decorative florals because of their daring, blooming beauty!
Inspired by Mexican Folk Art
Tenango embroidery is just one of the many types of Mexican folk art. Others include Huichol Art, Talavera Pottery, Mazaahua Textiles, and more. Tenango actually originated in the Tenango de Doria municipality in the Mexican state of Hidalgo. It is said to share many similarities with a more traditionalized embroidery called Otomi. The Tenango style uses vivacious colors to help illustrate images of nature and animals through geometric patterns. These are some of our most intricate, multi-hued pieces we can associate with such artistic creativity.

Our attention-grabbing pieces remind us of the determination to be bold. The courage to bring your culture with you wherever you go and allow others around you the opportunity to experience it. The strength it takes to stay true to yourself and your ancestry. In fact, bold colors are a large part of Hispanic Heritage Month, symbolizing a sense of humanity. We can see this idea through the work of many renowned Hispanic fashion designers, such as Fernando Garcia (from the Dominican Republic) and Daniela Bahamon (from Columbia). Both strive to deliver sophistication and vibrance in their unique designs in hopes of incorporating their culture's history into their work.
